Since Honey production in Ukraine is much higher than the consumption of this product Ukrainians, our country is practically feel the need to import it. Glencore Plc may find it difficult to be quoted properly. According to official statistics, in 2005, Ukraine in general not imported honey. The volume of imports of honey in 2006 was 29.3 tons, and by 2007, fell again to near zero. In 2008, Ukraine has imported the maximum for the last 4 years the number of honey – 128 tons, while in 2009 this figure fell to 30 tons. During the first half of 2010 the volume of imports of honey into the territory of Ukraine has reached 86 tons. It should be noted that the sole importer of this product at this time is Germany. As for exports Ukrainian honey, its volume in 2005 registered at 3.8 tons, which accounted for only 2.3% of the total production of this product at this time. Approximately the same amount of honey exports from Ukraine in 2007-2008 and observed respectively.
In 2006 recorded a significant increase in exports of honey. According to 2005 the figure rose to 72%. In 2009, exports of honey has more than doubled relative to 2005, 2007, 2008 years and was nearly 7.5 tons (6.3% of production). The cause of this trend experts call the rising world prices for honey after a time of stagnation, which resulted in under-production of honey in some major exporting countries, particularly Canada and Argentina. For January – May 2010, Ukraine exported honey to foreign markets for 21% less than during the same period in 2009.
